Crossword puzzles

I aspire to be good at crossword puzzles. I think they're awfully fun and also a good way to keep the important parts of my brain sharp. I admire Robyn and Kate and other folks in my midst who regularly finish crossword puzzles SO MUCH. Sigh. Verbal genius, is what it is.

I've been trying my hand at the IndyWeek's crossword almost every week for several months, and I still can't come anywhere close to finishing one without serious Google support, and/or team work.

Do you all think that's kosher? Do you think I'll actually get any better this way? What tips do you have for crosswords, besides doing them often and reading a lot?

My grandfather would call the 99 cents/minute hint line they published in the newspaper.

Funny thing about crossword puzzles is the makers tend to reuse words. A lot. So, after you do too many (created by the same source) you already know the answers, and kinda' think the way they do, etc. It's no fun after that. So, really, you shouldn't aspire to xword prowess.
